We’ve talked a lot of about specific types of cases in my last few blogs, but today I want to touch on some of the more broad cases we work on, those being catastrophic injuries. These are cases that involve paralysis, burns, blindness or loss of limbs. When you make that initial call to my firm, whether you are the injured party or a loved of the injured party, the first thing you are going to want to do is ask about our experience. These cases can be extremely complex and your attorney must understand the magnitude and severity. Why do I say that? Well, it’s not just doctors that are going to be involved here; you’ll have life care planners, forensic accountants, rehabilitation experts, maybe prosthetics experts. There are a lot of considerations to take and I want to make sure when people call me that they ask those questions about our experience. Your lawyer is going to have to explain to a jury and judge what the ramifications of this injury are going to be over a lifetime.
Another reason it’s important to call early is that once we’ve decided to work together, you can get back to taking care of your loved one or healing yourself. You can do this knowing that we’re going to take care of the legal side of things. While you’re getting better or in rehab, we can be doing a lot of important work. We might be talking to the police, hiring engineers to look at the hot water heater or steam boiler, basically investigating your case, without troubling you or your family. I hate to say it, but evidence disappears over time, so we need to be onsite, looking at what happened and getting you the information. Once we get those time sensitive answers, we can start dealing with your medical records and deciding on the best experts for your case.
